About the Faculty

Dr. Dipak Kumar Mandal have joined the Department as a Lecturer in Zoology 10th May 1997 and later promoted and redesignated to Senior Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor and Professor. He has been a Professor since 2013 and serving the Department as Head of the Department since March 2022. Since his joining he have been engaged in teaching in UG, PG and Ph.D. Course work courses in Zoology covering the topics Invertebrate and Vertebrate Biology, Vertebrate Anatomy, Animal tissues and histo-techniques, Microscopy and Fish Biology and Fisheries. He have developed a research Laboratory, handled two UGC major Research projects, guided 12 Ph.D. Students among them Seven awarded Ph.D. degree with good placement and five students are currently working in his laboratory; published 37 Research articles in peer reviewed journals. Research area of his lab is broadly Fish Olfaction, Fish Nutrition and Aquatic toxicology, currently working on the impact of alkylphenols and phthalate compounds on fish reproduction, metabolism, immune system and thyroid functions. 

Professional recognitions and Awards

  • Awarded research grant as JRF and SRF from the CSIR, New Delhi from 1991-1996.

  • Awarded research fund as Major Research project from UGC in 2003.

  • Awarded research fund as Major Research project from UGC in 2011.

Current research activities

​Research area of our lab is broadly Fish Olfaction, Fish Nutrition and Aquatic toxicology, currently working on the impact of alkylphenols and phthalate compounds on fish reproduction, metabolism, immune system and thyroid functions.
